Eco-friendly refrigerants gases reduce direct emissions of greenhouse gases by 99%.
Most of the proposed solutions to global warming are connected to the development of alternative and sustainable technologies.
In the refrigeration segment, three gases are recommended for manufacturing equipment due to a low impact on the atmosphere: the R600a (more suitable for residential cooling), the R290 and R744. The latter two are already used in products with Metalfrio Next technology.
Metalfrio Next: In line with the Kyoto Protocol
Until the early 90s refrigerators using CFCs as refrigerants (chlorofluorocarbons) caused emissions harmful to the ozone layer. In 1987 the Montreal Protocol recommended the replacement of gases, such as HFCs (hydro fluorocarbons). Even then Metalfrio pioneered the adoption of this proposal in Latin America.
In 2005 the Kyoto Protocol came into force with 175 countries - including Brazil and the European Union - pledging to adopt strict measures to reduce emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), among which are HFCs, now used by the refrigeration industry. Although not harmful to the ozone layer, HFCs have a global warming potential of hundreds or thousands times greater than carbon dioxide(CO2).
Maintaining its pioneer strategy and strengthening its commitment to the environment Metalfrio Next technology adopts the eco-friendly gases R290 and R744 which have lower global warming potential, which means a reduction of 99% in direct emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
